According to section 56 of the Road Traffic Act, you must have a driver’s licence to drive a car.
One of the conditions for obtaining a driver’s license is that one must receive instruction according to the mandatory curriculum of an approved driving instructor and then pass a driving test. The driving test is divided into a theoretical and a practical test.
The minimum requirements of the law are 29 lessons of at least 45 minutes in theoretical topics + 24 lessons of at least 45 minutes in practical driving (driving lesson). Of which 4 lessons on maneuver track and 4 lessons on slippery track. Teaching must extend over at least 14 teaching days.
You may obtain a driver’s licence for category B (ordinary car) when you are 17 years old.
From 1 January 2017, a pilot scheme has been started, where as a 17 year old you can take the drivers licence and then drive a car together with an experienced driver who has had a driving licence for at least 10 years as a companion.
You can start the driver’s licence process when you have reached the age of 16 years and 9 months, however, you can only take the practical driving test when you have reached the age of 17.
The driver’s licence is usually valid for 15 years and gives the right to drive the following vehicles:
- Passenger/van of maximum 3,500kg total weight allowed
- Car with a maximum of 8 seats in addition to the driver’s seat
- Coupled trailer of not more than 750kg total weight allowed
- Tractor/engine tool (for example a forklift)
- Moped subject to registration (moped 45 km/h)
At the introduction evening, we will review in detail the new rules with the students.

Theory teaching
The theory lessons take place at Brøndbyøster Torv 53, which is a 5-minute walk from Brøndbyøster Station in cozy and warm surroundings. Teaching takes place on the big screen and whiteboard.
The purpose of the teaching is not only to get a driver’s license in hand, but that the students among other things get the skill in assessing traffic critically, are environmentally friendly, and at the same time become the considerate and responsible drivers of the future, etc.
Maneuver track
After the second theory lesson, the student must go for the first time on the maneuver track, where the student alone must learn how to operate a car on a closed and safe track so that the student is ready for his first practical lesson on the road.
Driving on the road
First driving lesson on the road takes place with a driving instructor, who is permanently associated with the student throughout the practical course (driving lessons).
Driving on the road starts on a fixed selected route, where there is almost no traffic. The student has to go out, driving for the first time among the real traffic, it can seem stressful and uncomfortable if there is a lot of traffic. Therefore, the student starts with his driving instructor on a much easier trafficked road. And for each driving lesson, the student will be given a new route, where there will be more and more challenges in form of more road users, and the difficulty level increases with each lesson. In addition, the student must be prepared for the driving to take place at different times, i.e. e.g. before and outside rush hour as well as driving in the dark.
Theory test
The theory test can be taken when the student has completed 29 statutory theory lessons as well as 14 driving lessons on the way.
Slippery Track
As we have different weather conditions such as, rainy and snowy weather in Denmark etc.. the student must learn to master the vehicle in all kinds of weather conditions;. And therefore, the student must go out to the driving technical facility, also known as “slippery Track”, which is also part of the course, and must be taken before the driving test.
Practical test
The driving test can only be held when the student has passed the theory test, completed the Slippery Track as well as the student at least have had 16 driving lessons on the way. We only send the student up to the driving test when the student’s driving instructor assesses that the student is ready to pass the final test.
